A three day exploration of deconstruction and creativity
For this workshop you will be using mixed media to help manipulate a found book. We are altering a book of your choice so that it becomes a new form with new content. It is any book, old or new that has been recycled by creative means into a work of art. They can be ... rebound, painted, cut, burned, folded, added to, collaged, gold-leafed, rubber stamped, drilled or otherwise adorned.
The book will ease the viewer into the theme/story gradually – use each page to build-up a progressive story ending in a climax (in the recessed area or pull out section?) for the dramatic ending.
A three day exploration of alternative materials
This workshop selectively and aesthetically combines various media and techniques of drawing, painting, photography, and collage into two and three-dimensional works. You will be working individually from sketches and/or free association where you will focus on materials and process and ending with a unique body of work.
All projects can be executed with materials of reasonable cost. In some cases, effective use of recycled materials and creative use of found objects is ideal.
A three day exploration of technique and composition
This workshop will focus on non-objective drawing. I cover various methods and techniques that will help you present dynamic compositions in both color and structure. In some of my workshops, students will also work on specific practice exercises to improve their pastel application with the goal of making every stroke count. Each day of the workshop will begin with a demonstration followed by plenty of individual help at the easel for the remainder of each day. Unless specified, all levels are welcome.
